The International Roundtable Matters
Salvage acquisition. Backyard competition. Export of vehicles. OEM data. Consolidation. Parts procurement. These are the burning issues of the day in the auto recycling industry, and surprisingly not just for American or Japanese or British recyclers. These issues, and many more opportunities wrapped up problems, are pushing and squeezing all industry stakeholders everyday, globally Enter the International Roundtable on Auto Recycling, or IRT as it is commonly known. "The Automotive Recycling Industry is quickly being recognized worldwide as an indispensable ingredient in green automotive recycling. The more we can share, build on each other's experiences ,and grow as an integrated worldwide provider of automobile parts, the more acceptable we become. The IRT has proven over the years to be such a forum for infusing just the right mix of creative and innovative ideas which moves our industry forward," says Ed MacDonald, Maritime Auto Parts, Canada, and Vice President of ARA.

Committee Round Up Powered by YOU
ARA members who volunteer their time to serve on committees, find the work a rewarding way to contribute to the industry, and give back to the Association that works hard for the advancement of their interests. The first day of the ARA Convention offers opportunities to sit in on meetings of these working groups. Here is a round-up of all the available opportunities to serve the industry that you may wish to consider. ARA's committees and special task forces work hard all year long to continue to raise the bar of excellence for our industry. Not only are their efforts vital to the automotive recycling industry, committee members will tell you it's exciting and rewarding work. They give much to the industry they love, and also build lifetime friendships in the process. Serving on ARA committees is a win-win experience. ARA invites you to consider getting involved. All ARA committees meet as a group at the ARA Annual Convention, the ARA Mid-Year Business Meeting, and such other times as the committee chair might determine, usually via conference call.

Arson Dog
The recycling yard dog is seen in a new light at American Auto Recycling in Gilbert, Arizona, where an unusual visitor is welcomed a few times a month. This four-legged visitor has played a significant role in helping the community. Thanks to the team at American Auto Recycling, she will continue to get the training she needs to continue making the difference. Spring, is a two-year old black English Labrador, who is one of Gilbert Fire Department's investigators. She is trained to work alongside her handler, fire investigator David Zehring and can detect numerous accelerants that may have been used to start a fire. Zehring says it's important to be able to use facilities such as American Auto Recycling for training so Spring can train using different accelerants.
