In the recent September 2017 issue of Recycling Today, the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) continued to urge automotive manufacturers to embrace circular economy concepts by supporting the reutilization of recycled Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. The circular economy is one of the fastest-growing global economic trends. The basic tenant of a circular economy framework is to recover all products, components and materials at their highest utility and value. This philosophy rejects the old linear model of “take, make, waste,” instead favoring quality products and materials that can be reused rather than disposed of in a landfill. Regrettably, almost every automotive manufacturer has chosen to disregard the purest form of circular economy philosophy by rejecting reuse of quality OEM parts they produced.
